Classical Greek heros! 3-5 PCs, each of whom claims a separate deity (unless they're twins or select a nymph as a mother, in which case they are less powerful but get to consult their divine parent or get presents from her) as an ancestor with the exception of Artemis (not in character for her to have children by a mortal if someone really wants, they can be an Amazon chosen personally by Artemis) and Hermes (who's the most likely deity to show up and talk to the PCs). The PCs' epic destinies should overlap enough to justify that they'd all be on a boat together, sailing through a fantasy Mediterranean where each island holds new monsters, cultures and dangers.
... admittedly I think of monsters from Greek mythology moving with that distinct slight jitter characteristic of stop-motion animation.
