And now two brief things;

  • Since I am lactose intolerant, goat products and stuff intended for vegans is how I can still do dairy. What I don't get is why makers of vegan products seem to have this exaggerated fixation on soy products. Is it just that soybeans are cheap? A lot of faux-dairy is stuff you can do with coconut milk or whatever, for instance fake ice cream which does not taste like ice cream, but instead tastes like coconut milk which is ridiculously good.

  • Grooveshark means I can listen to Ozomatli albums I missed. I'd been a fan of their first albums, "Ozomatli" and "Embrace the Chaos." As soon as I heard "Street Signs" I was really hooked (I already knew about the album from "Who Discovered America"). But "Don't Mess with the Dragon" just isn't very good. It basically comes across as competent but kinda bland and not really diverse. And then "Fire Away," which is a good album - it's better than "Dragon" - but it doesn't come across as well as those first three albums. What happened?

(Saw this point after liking your icon on ysabetwordsmith's post, if you were wondering)

And: soybeans are dirt cheap, highly government-subsidized, and people think they are healthy so they can still be sold at a ridiculous health-food mark-up. It's basically a perfect way to spend as little money making a product and as much money selling a product as possible. There are coconut/almond/rice/oat/hemp/etc. alternatives, but in your mainstream grocery store you'll probably not see much of a selection outside of soy - unfortunately.
