asking for advice
May. 21st, 2013 02:02 pmOkay, I have an interview tomorrow for a 6 month temporary position.
The question I'm afraid of being asked is about my prior temporary work - I've done a lot of temp work, so was that intentional? I'm afraid that either answer I could give might suggest I'm a flaky person (wanting to work temp jobs could suggest that I just have no commitment and will jump ship whenever, wanting to go permanent but not going permanent might imply I'm not worth hiring on a permanent basis).
What do you think I should say if I run into that question?
Thanks!

Date: 2013-05-21 10:24 pm (UTC)You were given the mistaken impression that the SF area, being influenced by Silicon Valley and the Dot Com culture, significantly required someone be willing to work contract work. For example, industry leaders such as HP were known for having an extensive temp. work force. And when you first got here, you were also asked if you were sure you were going to stay. By the time employers were sure of your dedication to the area, and you knew the job market also liked employees, you had worked enough contracts that the focus of your resume had shifted and now you always get asked that question.
Then ask them what were some of the answers they'd heard to that question, because it always struck you as difficult to answer?
