Kurt Cobain obviously liked Queen. As a kid, he drained his dad's van's batteries because he was stuck sitting there for hours, and listening to Queen tapes. His suicide note includes comparing how utterly drained and fake he feels when he finishes performing, to Freddy Mercury who was really recharged by doing concerts.
Cobain was really obviously into a batch of bands. "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is Kudt trying to write a Pixies song, "About a Girl" is Kudt trying to write a Beatles song, Bleach has a Shocking Blue cover (really underrated group imo), Unplugged in New York is basically all stuff he thought was awesome; Bowie, Vaselines, Meat Puppets, Ledbelly.
So; why no Nirvana covers of Queen songs or acknowledged attempts to try and write a Queen song? Just so stylistically different he couldn't go there? Copywrite issues making covers unlikely? Feelings of inferiority which didn't extend to any of the other groups Cobain obviously liked?
