two first world problems

brushwolf1. I spend an okay amount of time at Starbucks (being able to get out of the house and draw for 2+ hours with a source of coffee nearby is kind of nice). Outside of the Christmas season, when the music is intolerable for anyone who doesn't seriously seriously love Christmas, whoever programs their music is generally pretty good at programming stuff which is more interesting that just muzak, yet not interesting enough to be challenging. Some reggae really falls into that category and as a result I am really sick of some of the Wailers' tracks when I used to be all oh yeah this is awesome. To compound this they've recently added a few of the Ramones' catchier but more accessible songs to the mix of in-store music (obviously, stuff like "Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue," "Beat on the Brat," "This Business is Killing Me," "The KKK Took My Baby Away," and "Bonzo Goes to Bitburg" are not in the rotation), so I'm now wondering if in a month or so I'll be utterly fed up with some though not all Ramones songs.
2. I also still have an AOL email, and still check that regularly. This means viewing their splash pages, and it's always NEWS OF DISASTER! YOU WANT TO GAWK AT THIS RIGHT? And it's pretty much never big scale disaster like "Living in Haiti Basically Sucks Right Now" or whatever. It's always some very Americanized human interest thing; the people who had a fatal accident on their honeymoon, or a missing person's corpse turns up, or someone shows up on TV with their fly wide open, or an alligator eats a kid or something. This is going by the headlines, since I feel like if I actually looked at the stories I'd sink into this weird pit of negativity. I feel grotty enough just passing by them.
