In old-skool AD&D, Fighters were the only class who could get over an 18 strength - they'd get anything from 18:01-18:00 with various benefits.
What if there were something similar for every character class (and this includes monster classes), where each class has a specialty stat, and only characters from that class can get the unusually potent stats? Let's say for the sake of argument, +2 in a system where stats range between 1-20. Maybe increasing that bonus to +4 or even +6 in a level-based system (not sure how to synch that up to a skill system, not yet).
And that way players could choose classes and get to feel really unchallenged in one area - sure, that Illusionist over there might be pretty skilled at "Sleight of Hand," but it's your Thief with her 20 Agility skill, who can really clean up at "Sleight of Hand."
