May. 4th, 2013 01:20 pmMy comment on this petition about an abstinence program in W. Virginia turned from fairly toxic to actively vindictive and spiteful.
"You know, I never thought sex education could be less useful to kids facing puberty than the sparse "penis goes in vagina and makes babies" version I got as a kid in Georgia. Y'all have just proved that I lucked out because my education wasn't so actively abusive.
"Come on guys, you're supposed to be the adults, and supposed to help and protect the kids. Start doing what you're paid for."
... okay, so my public school education was abusive as heck, but at least the sex ed chunk of it was okay (I was kind of a science geek at the time, so "penis goes in vagina" is mechanically fascinating even if actually having a chance to get laid, which'd make more context useful, was not about to happen in high school).
