... conventions are one of the places where ecstatic experience happens these days, and you can see cosplay as an exhibit of totemism or whatever, dressing as big archetypical figures, that stuff, and yet people get lots of humor mileage out of anyone dressing up because surprisingly real live humans don't quite look like natural 10s as portrayed in comics and animation.
This makes me wonder whether back in the days of other archetypes in ecstatic festivals, people made comments like;
"Oh yeah. Just another big fat guy dressing up as Raven. Sure, like I believe Raven's some huge hairy dude. And you should wash off the bear grease sometime, too."
"Ugh, WORST Soyok Wuhti costume ever."
"Eww eww eww he must've spilled oolachan all over the cedar bark in his outfit, the whole thing smelled like salmon. Don't go hugging that."
