So you know about Peary caribou, right? The whole reason I was looking 'em up today was that they seemed like pretty reasonable gnomish war-beasts and I was trying to draw a gnome paladin. Inuit used to rely on them as a food source. However;

The Peary caribou population has dropped from above 40,000 in 1961 to about 700 in 2009. During this period, the number of days with above freezing temperatures has increased significantly, resulting in ice layers in the snow pack. These ice layers hinder foraging and are the likely cause for dramatic drops in caribou population in the future.

Because we are supposed to believe there is no global warming, it's just exaggerated and if there is any, it's not anthropogenic in origin and anyway if it affects anyone at all it's just people in Africa, Pacific islands, Greenland and other folks who aren't rich Americans and so they don't matter. Presumably Peary caribou would be the appropriate "tiny reindeer" to pull a mythical sled so ironically, capitalism really is killing Christmas, if you dig on that sort of thing.

Speaking of islands, you know, several islands feel that their existence is threatened by global warming. Some days I wonder... whose the actual ecoterrorist- the guy who blows up a bulldozer or the society that causes an entire nation to have to buy land in Australia by screwing up the ecosystem?

I'm sure they'll have democracy once there's only a few guys left on opposite ends of the country. Hard to disagree about anything then.
