Jun. 17th, 2011 02:39 pmWatching the Doctor Who episode "Spearhead from Space" for the first time in years if ever;
1. Monty Python's Flying Circus probably ruined my ability to watch late 60s/early 70s Britain with a straight face. I kept expecting the kerchief-wearing women to turn out to be Terry Jones, talking about how kids these days have their heads filled with Cartesian dualism. Plus I kept expecting something ridiculous to happen any time someone buzzed someone else in the office settings. It's a little like the way, thanks to Monty Python, I can't see Edwardian formal photographs without expecting the cartoons next.
2. Oh no! Unemotive automatons have replaced upper echelon British military men!
3. Oh no! Unemotive automatons with no warmth or compassion have replaced 1970s-vintage Tories!
