This is how futurism worked in the 70s; Star Wars gave us "lived in" sci-fi, and Mattel gave us SW action figures with shiny vinyl capes.

A little like how nobody thought to question the irony of using characters from a Star Wars beat up future to decorate shiny vans, either.
