So let's see, I could spend some of my money for comics - which wasn't much back in the early 2000s - on stories about an alien who looks like a big muscly dude who's vaguely a metaphor for Jewish immigrant experience, or I could get stories about; a scientist dealing with the very literal personification of his response to abuse history; I could get stories about a school full of misfits and the most senior misfits among them; I could get stories about a reinterpreted Norse deity; I could get stories about a team of four superheros (one of whom is Jewish and not a metaphor) and their relationships among themselves and to outsiders while still in the context of superscience and alternate dimensions; and so on.

Now, I can spend some of my decreasing money or interest on comics on either stories about a human muscly dude looking alien, as written by a vicious bigot who managed to drive me away from ever being interested in supposedly his best work (which from what little I know, I'd be eh about anyway), or I can cherry pick from the other stuff mentioned above.

Heck, now that Hellblazer's over and I have no clue what's going on with Green Arrow anymore, my chances of picking up a DC book had been pretty phenomenally low anyway. I've only ever found Superman compelling enough to get once - and that was technically a Dark Horse crossover which I got primarily for Carlos Meglia's awesome artwork, may he rest in peace. I can't imagine I'm the only comics fan/buyer who really isn't interested in Supes, let alone Supes as moneymaker for a vile bigot.

Make mine Marvel.
