truth and fact
Jul. 25th, 2012 10:09 amSo you know the movie Exit Through the Gift Shop? Sammi showed me that one. It's simultaneously an inspiring underdog story and a completely demotivating take on trendiness and popularity. Normally I simply don't like Banksy, because their sheer popularity adds a nasty addition to my already uncertain feelings about graffiti, art, and public space, but this is a good movie!
Anyway, the story is itself too clean-cut to be factual, imho. Banksy is on record as having said the movie was "real," and I think this means whoever interviewed them phrased the question the wrong way by using "real" or "true" instead of "factual." I don't think that things actually happened as the film portrayed, but I'm pretty sure that, as a work of art, the thing reflects what Banksy actually perceives as truth moving in the world.
