The Black Hole con't
Jul. 2nd, 2012 11:20 amIn terms of "movies as roleplaying games" my pet theory is that The Black Hole is a Traveller game which swaped GMs halfway through - the first chunk was run by this older, more sedate guy interested in building suspense and mystery, and the second half was GM'ed by a kid who really wanted a Star Wars game instead, and who'd recently returned from Bible Camp.
Corrolary; the kid was playing Vincent before he went off to Bible Camp. This is why Vincent, who's merely an obnoxious character in the first chunk of the movie, becomes intolerably more competent than pretty much everyone else in the second. He's become the GM's favorite NPC and gets to do things like fight Maximillian single handed while everyone else watches, or reads the Droyne guidebook, or whatever.
