So, I got the chance to hang out and watch Red Tails, about the Tuskegee Airmen.
And, wow. I can't really spoiler it because if you've ever watched any war movies you've already seen this one. This is the movie that has it all - the devoutly religious character, the daredevil loose cannon, the relationship with the local girl, the underdog unit nobody believes can do the job, the main characters who manage to not die despite ridiculous odds, the main character who takes five minutes to die, the dueling-scarred German ace antagonist who could make «Entschuldigungen Sie mir bitte, ich müß Pinkelpause haben» sound like some sort of truly dire threat, etc.
If this movie were about British pilots, they'd all have pencil mustaches, refer to each other as "old boy" and constantly make cricket references while talking about the incoming archie. If you're okay with every war movie stereotype in the book, this is an okay movie though not a great one. If you aren't then it's kinda bleh.
Although I really liked the fight sequences, and the accurate equipment. Uh, but what was up with all the guys trying to take out planes with Kar 98s? That just wasn't gonna happen.
