Apr. 30th, 2012 12:33 pmSome rich guy wants to build a Titanic II.
The Titanic already had two sister ships. One of them, the Britannic, was refitted specifically to address the concerns brought about by the disaster, such that when the Britannic hit a mine while serving as a hospital ship, there were 11 deaths total. The other sister ship, the Olympic, was actually older than the Titanic and after a refit wound up being a larger ship. It successfully served as a liner and a troop ship until 1934, when passenger lines were winding down, and it got scrapped.
Who'd be aboard a potential Titanic II - a batch of people working remotely as they chug around the world? Just some very very rich people and a lot of echoing space? I can't imagine there being enough actual vacationers. Globalization means there's no need for the disenfranchised poor of one country to travel in steerage to a different country where they can also be poor and disenfranchised. It's just kinda oogy in general.
