Did you know that I actually have walked to school during a blizzard? Seriously, the classic old man on the back porch story.
This was during my time at U Michigan. I'm not sure if things ever got better but there was a lot of really negative stuff out there, and the Administration was constantly pulling dick moves on the TAs' union. In this one case, the Administration decided to remain firm that classes were going to go forwards, and the TAs were going to be there. They decided this in, I think February, when I was living about five miles from campus. I grew up in Georgia, a state which features rainy winters, so I regarded and still kinda regard all snow as "there's a lot of it," and with no class cancellations, I hiked through what seemed like a lot more snow than usual, and with it still coming down, to get to class (not many undergrads showed up). After class the snow had slowed down and it was downhill to get to my place, but man, it was cold. Cue the "Escape from Rura Penthe" track from Star Trek the Undiscovered Country.
