Nov. 17th, 2010 10:34 pmYou know, here's why I'd use Portland instead of Seattle if I were running Shadowrun;
- Elf xenophobia, incredibly ancient elf plotting, elf magical secrets, elite badass elf assassins, brutal elves-only law enforcement, and outside corporations or criminal organizations desperate to get a sound foothold, provide a ripe atmosphere for shadowrunning. An entire class of shadowrunning might involve getting passes to go through various parts of the Tir, or to smuggle people over the border.
- Slumming elf noble scions, tech-fan elf outcasts, and an underclass of non-elves provide plenty of shadowrunners.
- Since the ruling class isn't any particular human culture, it's possible to parody all sorts of formalized culture and societal expectations - without having to get details accurate.
- Willamette River, gigantic railyard, and multiple bridges are all visually dynamic, memorable sites. The bridges are also bottlenecks which can be avoided by using the river under cover of darkness.
