Sigfried's Fiend Follies
Nov. 2nd, 2010 08:20 amTaking another look through my first edition Fiend Folio gets me to the G section.
Outside of noticing that the illustrations never show adventurers, githyanki, and githzerai in the same picture - apparently I got the three-way battle idea on my own from the text, and still want to put it in a game someday - I'm forced to admit that honestly, other people don't think the githzerai are as cool as I think they are. A race of psionic evildoers ruled by an evil lich-queen, who wear ornate armor and ride red dragons are probably going to grab gamers' imaginations far more than a race of psionic neutraldoers ruled by an immortal fit/wiz who wear big cloaks (lots of D&D types wear big cloaks) and get into big wuxia fights with giant toads.
"Tough fight. We'll loot the bodies."
"Okay, the gaunt figure with the four braids coming off his bright red mohawk? Once you undo the wrappings, the metal plate parts of the armor count as a masterwork breastplate. He also has an arcane gorget with three 70 gp rubies set into the byzantine twists of its runework, a huge +2 greatsword of ancient and obscure design, and 40 gp."
"Awesome. What about the dude in the cloak over there?"
"Cloak dude has a set of wooden rosary beads, a belt pouch with ten pieces of delicious fried tofu, and a book by Thich Nhat Hanh about walking meditation."
