Weird movie stuff.

I watched all of Zulu last night and was delighted to find that it's visually, technically fantastic. I think that's part of why it was a more memorable chunk of childhood for me than a lot of other films that came on a lot. Like there's a lot of buildup and backstory before the Zulus finally show up - plenty of places which could just be talking heads - but which kept featuring interesting framing and a lot of moving about on multiple levels, vertically.

One of the "things we recommend" videos associated was a chunk of 2008 movie Die Brücke about a batch of Hitlerjugend told to defend a bridge at all costs. In the movie the Germans speak German and the Americans speak English, but whoever posted it to YouTube also had a Russian dub of a version with Swedish subtitles. The Russian dubbing the thing displayed exactly no enthusiasm for doing it, so I could vaguely hear the fear, anger and hope in German and English inflection, mostly masked by deadpan Russian. To make that weirder, you still can't show swastikas in Germany, so all the German characters are running around with big blank spaces where the insignia goes. And to make that even weirder, two American tanks show up and are promptly hit by Panzerfaust fire, okay, fine... but the first is probably a Leopard I with a star painted on it, and the second is actually an M4. Why not use the same M4 in both scenes?
