Okay, so I'm rewatching the Blue Danube Waltz sequence of 2001. So you've got Dr. Hayward Floyd snoozing alone in Tourist class, the in-flight movie flickering in front of him, as his pen floats out of his pocket and drifts across the open aisles.
That makes no sense! Even in an optimistic, humanity-won't-be-trapped-on-earth-choking-on-our-own-filth 1960s future, pushing stuff past the atmosphere into space is going to be expensive. There's no airline that won't try to pack the shuttle full of people. That really breaks my suspension of disbelief.
